is a for-profit organization that is not subsidized
by donations or government organizations and is
fully accountable to its stakeholders. As a for-profit
organization we must generate sufficient revenue
to support our operations and service to our users.
Advertising allows us to expand our services and
produce high-quality, comprehensive news reports
and related content for our users.
Clearly
some advertisements find more favor with our audience
than others, and we reserve the right to draw
the line on matters of ethics and good taste.
At the same time, we recognize that editorial
content and advertising are different domains
with different purposes. We believe our users
are able to make that distinction as well.
In
this regard, we are similar to other media such
as newspapers and magazines. We accept advertising
from credible sources even though an advertiser's
goal may not conform fully to our editorial program
as an environmental news service.
Advertising
does not shape our editorial decisions. By the
same token, we can't reasonably expect our editorial
decisions to dictate who advertises with us and
what form their advertising must take.
We
encourage ZCPortal users to share their comments,
whether they be about news content or advertising,
in a forum we have built into our web site expressly
