Woodrow Wilson White is the junior senator from Vermont. His
first wife is suing him; his current wife is about to sue him;
his son has been arrested for drug smuggling; and his pet
daschund has been kidnapped by his former illegal Italian
immigrant housekeeper. Then there’s his involvement with the
Vermont maple syrup mafia and the African nation of Togo. And
it’s just a few months until he stands for re-election. Can it
get any worse? You betcha. This novel is absolutely hysterical.
It’s ten times funnier than Primary Colors.
Houellebecq’s anti-Muslim rants are so pleasing to the ears that
one could almost forget (and forgive him) that he’s French. Only
Houellebecq could construct a novel around the themes of sex
tourism and Muslim terrorism. A must read!
This is something for a mindless day at the beach. The
protagonist is a female action-film screenwriter whose
biological clock has begun to tick-tock with ominous overtones.
A witty addition to the neurotic (Is there any other kind?)
female-coming-to-grips-with-the-expiration-of-her-freshness-date
genre.
One of the best drummers on the current jazz scene and the son
of the legendary Woody Herman bass player Chubby Jackson. Duffy
Jackson swings more than ten drummers combined.
Stan Kenton’s big band along with June Christy and the Four
Freshmen. It’s hard to believe that there was a time when real
music was popular with the college crowd. Those were the days.
Relive them in their full glory.
