Slipped through the cracks

Gottasee Diggstown
By Bill Doty

I find it somewhat confining trying to see films in theaters today. There are 10 choices, now pick one. I have a hard enough time finding something to watch on cable with access to over 200 channels. Therefore, VHS was a gift from the Gods. Now of course I have migrated to DVD although my mood related choices have not become any easier.

Too Mushy

Too Dramatic

Too Steven Seagalish...I can never really match my shade of red.

But I have a security blanket, in the form of about 30 movies I can watch forever. These are not blockbusters or listed classics. There are great films that have slipped through the cracks. It has taken years to develop this list. But because I care, I will share it with you. One movie at a time.

Diggstown

(1992) Directed by Michael Ritchie - Cast James Woods,Louis Gossett Jr., Bruce Dern, Oliver Platt, Heather Graham, Randall 'Tex' Cobb

A con within a con. And for once, you do not see it coming (no, I will not tell you who Keiser Sose was). I have yet to figure how this slept through the theaters. I even have a hard time even finding this in my local video stores. James Woods is the con artist who brings back to life retired "never-been" boxer James Gossett Jr. Bruce Dern is the intended victim who sees them coming a miles away. Unfortunately, the casting director decided to force us into believing there could be love interest between Heather Graham and Woods, but there are far harder things to believe in this film. Entertaining throughout, I never get tired of watching this film. Message to Woods: Your one of my favorite actors, now walk away from the Blockbuster voice-overs and make another damn film.
